The Lenovo ThinkPad L512 I recently bought (but didn’t quite get around to blogging about) is currently away for warranty. It was great while I had it, but after about three weeks, the CPU fan stopped working which caused it to rapidly overheat. Judging by the fact I couldn’t really find any similar reports on Google, it sounds like I’m the only person who has experienced the problem.
Lenovo’s tech support was extremely helpful. They also had Australian tech support staff, which seems somewhat of a rarity these days. After explaining the problem, the tech support bloke agreed that it sounded like a fan issue and told me to send it in for further inspection and repair. Lenovo should have it sorted out for me within another week.
In the mean time, I’m back on my old Eee PC 1000HA. Like my ThinkPad, I’ve installed Slackware 13.37 on it. Its left-click button and wireless card is on its way out, but it still gets the job done. When my ThinkPad returns, I think my netbook will get a much-needed rest. Until then, it will play.
